Press conference on the completion of the KAGRA tunnel and a site tour.

KAGRA Project (presented by ICRR)
The excavation of the tunnels for the large-scale cryogenic gravitational-wave telescope, KAGRA, was successfully completed at the end of March 2014.
On July 4th 2014, we had a press conference to announce this achievement in Kamioka-cho, Hida-city, Gifu prefecture, Japan, with the presence of the president of the University of Tokyo, Junichi Hamada.

On the same day, a site tour of the KAGRA tunnels was held to show the site to the press and relevant people. From the NINS, president Katsuhiko Sato, NAOJ director general Masahiko Hayashi and former director general Norio Kaifu attended the site tour.

From now on, the construction of KAGRA will enter the installation phase of detector instruments starting from the large vacuum systems. The gravitational wave group of NAOJ is developing sub-systems of KAGRA, such as the ultra-high performance vibration isolation systems and scattered light mitigation systems. Installation of those instruments to KAGRA will start shortly.
